Wait... do I need a coach now too?

Hi there,

Career coaching. Life coaching. Relationship coaching. And now... coaching for mothers?

When I first heard about it, my immediate thought was: "Great, another thing to add to my self-care list that I'll never actually do."

I've been seeing a perinatal coach myself for three years now. She's been my pillar of support through some of my toughest times, giving me actual tools when I felt like I was drowning, not just telling me to "relax more and take care of myself."

So when Tessa Johnson-Jones joined me on the podcast, I wanted to get really practical. What does coaching for mothers actually look like? And more importantly, what can it do for you when you're already drowning?

Here's what Tessa explained: coaching for mothers isn't about adding more to your plate. It's about helping you figure out what's actually on your plate, who put it there, and whether it needs to be there at all.

The difference between coaching and therapy? Therapy looks backward, processing trauma, understanding patterns. Coaching looks forward, you set goals and find practical solutions for where you are right now.

And those goals might surprise you. "I want to negotiate part-time hours." "I want to see my friends more than once every three months." "I want to stop shouting at my kids every evening." All valid.

One tool Tessa shared: sit down with your partner and write out every single household task you each do. Then redistribute them intentionally.

Sounds obvious, right? But here's what happens: during maternity leave, you take on loads more at home because you're there. Then you go back to work... and somehow all those tasks just stay with you. Nobody redistributed anything. You're just doing it all now.

In this episode, you'll hear about the identity crisis of returning to work, the specific pressure points throughout motherhood, and what actually happens in Tessa's Mother Circles at Krish Yoga Studio.

If you're wondering whether coaching might help you navigate this stage of life, this conversation will give you real answers.

Hey Reader, Last week we were on holiday. In large and jam-packed lift my twins were doing what my twins do, wanting to be carried at exactly the same time, by me. A woman next to me smiled. She had two daughters with her. The kind of smile that says, I see you. Then she noticed my son. "Oh, you have three?" I said, well actually four, and pointed to my daughter. She looked genuinely shocked. And then, in front of a full lift of strangers, she looked at me slowly drew her finger across her...

Hey Reader, Tomorrow is our monthly Mother's Coaching Circle. ✌️ After last month's session, Sophie (one of our members) left this comment in our members-only group: You see, Sophie had no idea what to expect from "coaching for mothers." Most people don't. Is it advice? Therapy? A support group? It's a space. 💛 A space to say the things you've been thinking but haven't said out loud. A space to rethink the stories you tell yourself about motherhood. A space where someone asks the questions...

Hey Reader, “I’m really enjoying nothing about being pregnant.” That’s what one of my students wrote to me this week. Another asked where that magical 2nd trimester glow everyone talks about is? The thick, blooming hair she's supposed to have by now? Another student's nausea came BACK at week 22 after it was supposed to disappear. And it’s not just pregnancy. On Sunday, I bumped into an ex-student with her two toddlers. I told her she looked great. Her reply? “Thanks, I had a shower today.”...
