Where's the glow everyone promised?

Hey Reader,

“I’m really enjoying nothing about being pregnant.”

That’s what one of my students wrote to me this week.

Another asked where that magical 2nd trimester glow everyone talks about is? The thick, blooming hair she's supposed to have by now?

Another student's nausea came BACK at week 22 after it was supposed to disappear.

And it’s not just pregnancy.

On Sunday, I bumped into an ex-student with her two toddlers. I told her she looked great.

Her reply? “Thanks, I had a shower today.”

That’s the bar for mothers.

Here’s what I want to say about all of this:

It sucks. And that’s the reality.

And here’s what else I’ve noticed:

These things? They only get spoken about in private.

Not on social media. Not at family dinners. Not when someone asks “how are you doing?”

But in yoga classes? In Mother’s Coaching sessions? In private 1:1 conversations?

That’s when the truth comes out.

That’s when mamas say what they’re really feeling. Without the “but I’m so grateful” disclaimer. Without the pressure to perform happiness.

I can’t promise I’ll make pregnancy easier or motherhood less chaotic.

But I can promise you a space where you can say the real stuff - without anyone telling you “you should enjoy every minute” or “just be grateful.”

Yes, we’re grateful. We wanted this. We love our babies and our children more than anything.

And also?

Sometimes pregnancy is miserable.

Sometimes motherhood means crying in the car because someone asked 'what did you do today?' and you genuinely can't remember.

Sometimes our kids drive us insane and we love them and resent them in the same breath.

Both things can be true at the same time. 💛

So if you’re pregnant and not glowing…

If you’re forgetting to eat because your baby won’t let you put them down…

If you’re just trying to survive this week…

You’re in the right place.

No toxic positivity here. Just real talk, real yoga and real people.

Hey Reader, Last week we were on holiday. In large and jam-packed lift my twins were doing what my twins do, wanting to be carried at exactly the same time, by me. A woman next to me smiled. She had two daughters with her. The kind of smile that says, I see you. Then she noticed my son. "Oh, you have three?" I said, well actually four, and pointed to my daughter. She looked genuinely shocked. And then, in front of a full lift of strangers, she looked at me slowly drew her finger across her...

Hey Reader, Tomorrow is our monthly Mother's Coaching Circle. ✌️ After last month's session, Sophie (one of our members) left this comment in our members-only group: You see, Sophie had no idea what to expect from "coaching for mothers." Most people don't. Is it advice? Therapy? A support group? It's a space. 💛 A space to say the things you've been thinking but haven't said out loud. A space to rethink the stories you tell yourself about motherhood. A space where someone asks the questions...

Hi Reader, I recently got a question from one of you that you may be wondering about too: "What does it even mean to use my core during pregnancy? I'm doing CrossFit at 21 weeks, and I notice my belly moves a lot more now. I'm finding it super interesting to see what I can and can't do." If you're active during pregnancy, whether that's CrossFit, yoga or boxing, you need to know about this. One of my pregnant students told me her belly was making a weird shape when she was getting out of bed....
