"I just want to feel like myself again." "I don't recognize myself anymore." Have you said these words? I have. After having my twins, I spent two years living in "house" clothes. Not the cute lounge-wear you see advertised on Zalando. More like clothes with stubborn stains that wouldn't come out. Things with holes. Shapeless tracksuits. I told myself it was practical and comfortable. It was only going to be a matter of minutes before I had milk thrown on it anyway. My only outings were the school and the supermarket. But really? I'd stopped seeing myself as someone worth dressing for. When my twins turned two, I decided to celebrate by doing something fun for a change: I booked a colour consultation with personal stylist Bekah Kraakman. What started as finding my best colours turned into something much deeper. Fears and insecurities I didn't even know I was carrying came to the surface. Things that were actually being represented in what I wore and how I wore it. So I HAD to bring Bekah onto the podcast. Here's what we talked about: Why you should buy clothes for the body you have NOW, not the body you had or hope to have. (We wouldn't dress our newborns in 12-month sizes and make them "make it work" - so why do we do it to ourselves?) The psychology behind "look good, feel good" - it's science, not vanity. When you look in the mirror and like what you see, you get dopamine. That one moment can change your entire day. Why getting dressed is one thing you CAN control in motherhood. You can't control if the baby sleeps or if the milk spills. But you can control what you put on your body. Why motherhood is "supposed" to look like a struggle - and what happens when you show up looking put-together. (Spoiler: it makes people uncomfortable, and that's not your problem.) Bekah has a psychology degree from Stanford and started her styling company as a postnatal mom herself. She gets it. Her advice is simple but powerful: "You don't need to dress up for the outside world, your husband, or your baby. Dress up for YOU." Five minutes. That's all it takes. Five minutes to put on something you love, look in the mirror, and feel like yourself again. And here's what changes: You're more likely to say yes when a friend calls to meet up. You're more likely to go for that walk when the sun comes out. You stop the negative spiral of "the milk spilled, this happened, I look like crap." You start your day feeling ready for anything.
With love, Krish❤️ P.S. What are you wearing right now as you read this? Hit reply and tell me. No judgment - just curiosity. Are you in your "house clothes" too? |
Hey Reader, Last week we were on holiday. In large and jam-packed lift my twins were doing what my twins do, wanting to be carried at exactly the same time, by me. A woman next to me smiled. She had two daughters with her. The kind of smile that says, I see you. Then she noticed my son. "Oh, you have three?" I said, well actually four, and pointed to my daughter. She looked genuinely shocked. And then, in front of a full lift of strangers, she looked at me slowly drew her finger across her...
Hey Reader, Tomorrow is our monthly Mother's Coaching Circle. ✌️ After last month's session, Sophie (one of our members) left this comment in our members-only group: You see, Sophie had no idea what to expect from "coaching for mothers." Most people don't. Is it advice? Therapy? A support group? It's a space. 💛 A space to say the things you've been thinking but haven't said out loud. A space to rethink the stories you tell yourself about motherhood. A space where someone asks the questions...
Hey Reader, “I’m really enjoying nothing about being pregnant.” That’s what one of my students wrote to me this week. Another asked where that magical 2nd trimester glow everyone talks about is? The thick, blooming hair she's supposed to have by now? Another student's nausea came BACK at week 22 after it was supposed to disappear. And it’s not just pregnancy. On Sunday, I bumped into an ex-student with her two toddlers. I told her she looked great. Her reply? “Thanks, I had a shower today.”...
