🎙️Why Yoga Nidra is Essential for Mothers with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli

Hi Reader,

A few weeks ago my eldest two wandered into the bedroom where I was resting. My 6 year old whispered to her younger brother "Shhh, Mama's resting." And then they both walked out.

I smiled. And then I nearly cried.

Just a year ago, I would have never allowed myself this "luxury" during the day, frantically using every spare minute for chores instead.

This is why my conversation with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli touched me so deeply. She explained that our bodies naturally operate in cycles called "ultradian rhythms," where ideally we'd rest for 20-30 minutes roughly every 90 minutes. Yet we've been conditioned to power through the day with one break, if we're lucky!

Uma shared something revolutionary: rest isn't just self-care. It's resistance! When we choose to rest, we're actually making a statement that we refuse to be defined solely by productivity.

She also revealed that modern yoga's rigid alignment approach was never designed for women's bodies! No wonder those "square your hips" instructions never felt right during pregnancy or postpartum.

Most importantly, Uma reminded us that postnatal recovery takes far longer than the typical six-week check-up suggests, sometimes 18+ months. And when we prioritize rest, we model something beautiful for our children.

This week, I invite you to try a simple experiment: take more than one rest a day. If you don't know where to start, here's a link for a free restorative yoga class for you to practice (play it for free by signing up for a free 7 day trial). Notice how you feel afterward and how your children respond to your rested presence.

Your rest isn't just healing you, it's revolutionary.

With love,

Every time I read the news or scroll social media, I feel this crushing weight of everything happening in the world - conflicts, climate change, political tension - and then this awful feeling of helplessness because I'm so...
